The Challenge

The Concept

To address BoxLunch’s needs, we designed capsule collections that married pop-culture fandom with collectible value. Instead of simply translating licensed artwork, we leaned into trending IPs and under-the-radar fandoms, shaping products that felt like discoveries. Formats such as blind boxes, collectible mugs, and premium tabletop pieces were intentionally crafted to be giftable and display-worthy. By layering subtle aesthetic nods with storytelling details and positioning them as limited-run exclusives, we tapped into BoxLunch’s core collector culture, creating products that felt special, rare and worth seeking out.

The Creation

We collaborated with BoxLunch to develop in-house product lines spanning tabletop, gifting, décor, and everyday lifestyle categories, all designed to capture the voice of each fandom while elevating beyond standard merchandise. Every piece incorporated clever design touches and storytelling elements that spoke directly to collectors and fans seeking something more meaningful than off-the-shelf merch. Close, agile communication with the BoxLunch buying team allowed us to refine concepts in real time, ensuring that the final assortments felt both authentic to the fandom and aligned with Box Lunch’s exclusive, premium positioning.

Commercialization

Our collections outperformed category benchmarks with higher-than-average sell-through, driving both reorders and expanded assortments. This success led BoxLunch to select Magenta as the exclusive partner for a special collectible program and to entrust us with developing additional opportunities across their broader portfolio.
