Rae Dunn's utilitarian approach to designing ceramics is strongly based on the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. Each piece has a visual presence of its own and attempts to capture the simplicity and playfulness that are the cornerstones of her life.

Artful Environments offers a contemporary interpretation of stela: an ancient stone slab bearing an inscription or design. Each stela begins with an original, hand carved image impressed in clay. Once the image is created, a clay slab or frame is added and the entire piece is hand painted.
